Keep the original style

When doing a makeover it is important to take the original style into consideration. In this case we kept some elements from Cecilie's original interior and matched it with the new furniture. We kept the big golden mirror, the big wooden table and her chandelier, as they all underline the romantic touch in her designs.

What is the use of the room?

Cecilie's workspace is also a showroom, so the storage space needs to be functional yet decorative. Adding the buttons on the cupboard helps her to remember where she put what, and it looks decorative when customers enter.

Room dividers

Shelves can be very useful as room dividers. They can work as storage and display space at the same time. See-through shelves make the room seem more airy and work well in small spaces.

Same furniture - Several functions

In small spaces furniture needs to be functional. An adjustable working desk allows for several working positions. Furthermore the desk can be taken apart and used for drinks and snacks during presentation of a new collection.

Use furniture as room dividers

Use furniture to divide work areas. We used BESTÅ in Walnut Brands to separate the reception area from the workspace. BESTÅ not only stores and divides, but the doors also become frames. Simply insert an image into the glass panels to personalize your space.

Sound decoration

Accessories, such as the IKEA STOCKHOLM RAND, a Scandinavian rug with crisp, clean lines, can bring a feeling of intimacy into an office. A rug can also help dampen the acoustics in a small space.

Use accessories to highlight your style

Adding accessories and colors to your furniture, is a quick way to revamp your space. And don't forget repetition is an easy way to achieve a big difference. You may only need one lamp, but try hanging 3 instead...

Work with what you've got

A bit of alternation can make even the smallest change look big. Don't forget to repurpose items you already have. In this case a dull kitchen was painted and we added a new counter and some much needed storage space.

One solution can serve multiple purposes

If you plan it right, then one solution can serve more than one purpose. We set out to create a break room. We ended up with a meeting room, a break room and a new kitchen area - all in one.

A great new old kitchen

Often the dream of a new kitchen is replaced by a brutal wakeup call. Detailed planning and complex installation can easily be avoided if you take a fresh look at your old kitchen. We worked with what was already there but replaced a few items. Using the free-standing UDDEN kitchen modules and adding UDDEN cabinets for storage gave both function and style to a kitchen that had seen better times. Welcome to a great new old kitchen.

Tailor your solution

Before you start a makeover, think of what you do most in your workspace. Make a list of the activities that take place in any given room, and then try to find the right solutions using IKEA BUSINESS products. As a digital creative agency, Your Mum needed to show work to clients, so one of the solutions combined IKEA kitchen countertops with EXPEDIT storage units to create a display and meeting area.

Keep calm and carry on

When it comes to renovating or redecorating your business, turn what may seem like a stressful endeavor into a more enjoyable experience by taking a few short cuts. Make sure to organize and prioritize tasks, and get some help from friends and colleagues.

Give it personality

Generally, a business should reflect the personality of its people. One of the most interesting challanges for Your Mum was how to incorporate the distinct personalities in the space. Before the makeover, we agreed on the color scheme, and then included the gold frame, beige couch and professional, yet personal items, in the solution.
